Val Kilmer was born in Los Angeles, California. Kilmer started acting in his high school,
Chatsworth High School, with his friend
Kevin Spacey. He took professional acting classes in Hollywood's Professional's School and Julliard's Drama in which he was the youngest student.
In 1984, Val Kilmer had his film debut in
Top Secret! as rock idol
Nick Rivers, in which he did his own singing. In 1986 he played in the
Top Gun as Ice Man.
Besides movies, Val Kilmer also performs in theatre stages. In 1988, he played
Hamlet at the Colorado
Shakespeare Festival.
Kilmer's career breakthrough came in 1991 when he played in Oliver Stone's
The Doors as Jim Morrison. In this movie, Kilmer also sang some of the songs. After The Doors, Kilmer has played two more American icons, gunslinger Doc Holliday in
Tombstone and the spirit of Elvis in
True Romance.
