Salma Hayek was born in south east Mexico as Salma Hayek-Jimenez. Her father, Samy, is a Lebanese origin and mother is a Mexican.
Hayek started her acting career in late 80s when she starred in Mexican TV soap operas, "Nuevo amanecer, Un" (1988) and "Teresa" (1989).
She moved to Los Angeles, trying to start a acting career in US. She took some acting classes and english lessons. In 1993, Hayek had her first opportunity when she landed a role in Mi Vida Loca, directed by Allison Ander. After that movie, she made special appearances on the series Sinbad, Dream On and Nurses.
She returned to Mexico in 1994. She appeared in Mexico's telenovela El Vuelo Del Aguila. She also starred in her first Mexican movie, "El Callejon De Los Milagros". She was nominated for an Ariel (Mexican Academy Award).
In 1995, Salma Hayek had her career breakthrough when she landed a role in "Desperado" with Antonio Banderas.
In 2003, Hayek starred in Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.
Currently she is working on After the Sunset, Sian Ka'an, Paint, Murphy Law, and Ask The Dust.
