Russel's father was a movie set caterers and sometimes he brought Russel to the sets. He started his television career at age 6 in Australian TV series, "Spyforce".
He starred in many box office movies, such as "Gladiators (2000)", "Proof of Life (2000)", "Beautiful Mind (2001)" and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)".
He wrote a song about Jodie Foster called "Other Ways of Speaking" with his band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts.
