Rowan's birth name is Rowan Sebastian Atkinson. He was born in United Kingdom to Ella May and Eric Atkinson. Rowan grew up in a farm with his two older brothers, Rupert and Rodney.
Rowan graduated from Newcastle and Oxfor University with a electrical engineering degree.
In 1979, he co-wrote British TV comedy series, "Not the Nine O'Clock News", which was a huge success. The series won an an International Emmy Award and the British Academy Award for "Best Light Entertainment Program of 1980."
Following his success in "Not The Nine O'Clock News", Rowan was named "BBC Personality of the Year" and won the the "British Academy Award".
To American audienses, Rowan is best known as Black Adder and Mr. Bean.
Rowan enjoys fast cars. He owns various fast cars. He races (and also crashes) his Aston Martins in the Aston Martins Owners club series.
In 2003, Rowan was treated for depression following the critical failure of Johnny English. Rowan Atkinson was reportedly upset following bad reviews for the spy caper, and decided to check himself into the $6,000 per week Cottonwood De Tucson clinic in Arizona, America. Rowan spent five weeks recuperating at the celebrity clinic. Despite the critical mauling, Johnny English was the fifth highest grossing film of the year in his native Britain.
