Richard Tiffany Gere was born in Philadelphia . His father was an insurance salesman. Gere's interest in entertainment industry started in music. He played several instruments in high school and wrote musics for his high school (North Syracuse Central High School) productions.
Richard Gere went to University of Massachussets in Amherts, where he got scholarship in gymnastics. Two years later he left college to pursue acting career.
In 1973, he landed a role in London production of "Grease".
He has starred in many movies, such as Looking of Mr. Goodbar (1977), An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). But his career breakthrough came in 1990 when he starred in a Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts.
Richard is also known as a humanitarian. He has travelled to other countries to visit refugee camps and other humanitarian reasons. He is a founding member of "Tibet House", a non-profit organization to preserve Tibetian culture.
