Oliver Martinez was born and raised in Paris, France to a working class family. His father was a Spanish-Moroccan boxer and his mother was a secretary.

Martinez didn't finish his school. He dream to became a professional fighter just like his father vanished after he was injured of a car accident. His friends urged him to try acting and at age 23, Olivier Martinez enrolled in Conservatoire National Superieur d'Art Dramatique in Paris.

After graduated, Martinez performed in Eugene O'Neill's play Desire Under the Elms which led him to his first major film role, IP5 in 1992. In 1995, Oliver Martinez won César for Most Promising Actor award for his performance in The Horseman on the Roof.

In 2002, Martinez portrayed an Italian gigolo in The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone. He had his big Holywood project in 2003 when he starred in S.W.A.T. alongside Colin Farrell, LL Cool J and Michelle Rodriguez .

In 2004, Olivier Martinez sets to play in Taking Lives alongside Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke and Kiefer Sutherland.
