Monica Bellucci was born in the Italian village of Citta di Castello, Umbria. Initially she pursued a career as a lawyer.

She attended University of Perugia. During her study, Monica Bellucci started modelling to help pay for the tuition. The glamorous life of a model, tempted Monica away from her law studies. In 1988, Monica Bellucci moved to Milan, one of Europe's fashion city, to joined Elite Model Management. By 1989, Monica was making it big in Paris, as well as across the Atlantic in New York.

In 1990, she made her television acting debut. Two years after that, she starred in her first American movie, Bram Stolker's Dracula as Gary Oldman's castle vampire. She was also the star of Malena and dozens of other Italian films. She also appeared in Under Suspicion with Gene Hackman She was also starred in two of the Matrix trilogy, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions .

Monica has appeared nude in many photo shoots. In 1998, she made a nude calendar for the Italian magazine, Max and for GQ in 2000.

In 2004, Monica Belluci appeared in Mel Gibson's controversial movie, Passion of the Christ as Magdalene.
