Maria Bello was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania to a Polish and Italian family. Her father was a construction worker and her mother was a teacher.
Bello studied political science at Villanova University in Philadelphia. During her senior year, Bello took an acting class and the she realized that acting is her future. Then, she had some small roles in off Broadway plays, such as The Killer Inside Me, Small Town Gals With Big Problems and Urban Planning.
