Lisa Kudrow was born in Encino, California to Lee Kudrow, a physician and Nedra Kudrow, a travel agent. Her birth name is Lisa Marie Diane Kudrow. Lisa grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. She attended Vasar College in New York and graduated with B.S. in Biology. After graduation, Lisa moved back to Los Angeles to follow her father's footsteps, to do medical research. However, Lisa got inspired to perform by one of her brother's friend, Jon Lovitz. Lisa auditioned for The Groundlings, an LA-based improv theater group. The Groundlings in Los Angeles. Although she initially was not accepted into the program, The Groundlings referred her to Cynthia Szigeti, a well-known improvisation teacher based in Los Angeles. In that class she met and became close friends with Conan O'Brien (NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien"). In 1989 she became a full-fledged member of The Groundlings.
Lisa Kudrow got a recurring role on NBC's series "Mad About You as Ursula, the ditzy waitress. In 1994, Lisa Kudrow got a lead role in another NBC's sitcom "Friends" as Phoebe Buffay, Ursula twin sister. In the first season of Friends (1994-1995), Lisa earned an Emmy nomination as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which she won in 1998.
After her huge success with Friends, Lisa starred in some movies, such as Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and The Opposite of Sex. She also starred in Analyze That with Robert de Niro.
