Jonathan Brandis was born in Connecticut to Greg and Mary Brandis.
Brandis had his show business debut at age 2 when his mother took him on a road trip to New York City. After that, he continued to appear in commercials and as a print models. At age 6, Brandis got a part in
One Life to Live.
Brandis and his family moved to LA when he was 9. His family encouraged him to pursued a career in acting and television. His first big break was when he played a part of a chronic stutterer in
Stephen King's
It. He also appeared in
Steven Spielberg's TV Series
SeaQuest DSV as
Lucas Wolenczak in 1992, which made him the new teen idol. Brandis won the
Best Youth Actor in a Leading Role in a Television Series at
15th Annual Youth in Film Awards for his role in SeaQuest DSV. Brandis also made guest appearances on
L.A. Law,
Who's the Boss and
Murder She Wrote.
In November 2003, Jonathan Brandis was found dead in his apartment just before midnight by his friends. He commited suicide by hanging himself. There was no suicide note.
He was an only child, who is survived by his parent, Greg and Mary Brandis.
