He was originally famous as a rapper and songwriter. His band was N.W.A, which many of the songs are controversial, like "Fuck Tha Police", "Gangsta Gangsta" and "Express Yourself".
Ice Cube started his solo career in music in 1990 after some business disputes with his band. His solo career was successful.
His movie career started when he starred in "Boys In Tha Hood" (1990) which followed by other movies, like Trespass", "Dangerous Ground" and "Anaconda" in 1997.
In 2002, Ice Cube starred in Calvin Palmer's "Barbershop". The movie was a hit and a sequel was released in early 2004, "Barbershop 2: Back in Business".
