Debra Messing was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in a suburb outside of Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from Brandeis University at Waltham, Massachusetts with a degree in theater arts. She went to New York University's Elite Graduate Acting Program and received her Masters of fine arts degree from there.
Her acting debut was on theaters. She played in several productions, such as Angels in America: Perestroika, The Importance of Being Earnest, Four Dogs and a Bone and The Naked Truth. She was chosen as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for her performance in Collected Stories.
Debra Messing got her first television role when she starred in Ned & Stacey as Stacey. She also appeared in NYPD Blue as Dana - Gail O'Grady's sister. Messing made special appearances on Prey, Seinfield and Jesus. Her most successful TV series probably is NBC's sitcom Will & Grace as Grace Adler opposite of Eric McCormack's character, Will Truman.
Debra Messing has appeared in some movies, such as The Mothman Prophecies, Along Came Polly, Something Borrowed and Garfield: The Movie.
