Charlize Theron grew up on a farm outside Benoni, South Africa, as the only child. Her father Charles Theron, is a construction company owner, died in 1990. Gerda Theron, her mother, took over the company after that.
She studied ballet until 18 when she got knee injury.
In 2004 Charlize Theron won the Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a motion picture drama for her role in "Monster."
