Brittany grew up in Edison, New Jersey. At age 16, she and her mother (her parents were divorced), moved to California.
Her birth name is Sharon Murphy.
Her first television role was on "Blossom", a sitcom TV series that ran between 1991-1995.
She had her career breakthrough when she landed a role in Clueless in 1995.
In 1999, she starred in "Girl, Interrupted". During filming that movie, the filmmakers had to reshoot the scene in which Winona Ryder finds her after she commits suicide, because Winona was too good and Brittany couldn't help crying.
She was the lead singer of band called "Blessed Soul" in early 1990s.
