Benjamin McKenzie was born and raised in Austin, Texas. His father, Pete Schnekkan is an attorney and his mother, Frances Schnekkan is a poet-writer.
Benjamin studied Foreign Affairs and Economics in University of Virginia. After graduation, he moved to New York to pursue an acting career.
He appeared in "Life is a Dream" Broadway show and numerous productions at Williamstown Theatre Festival, including Street Scene and The Blue Bird, and at the University of Virginia, in Measure for Measure and Zoo Story.
Benjamin landed a lead role in a TV series "The O.C." after he moved to Los Angeles.
